"Some" oil consumption is normal... in fact many mechanics considered it to be a good thing. It indicates the oil is circulating and being consumed in minor amounts due to friction and the "miniscule" amounts that get past the rings and valves thus indicating total lubrication of "all" moving surface areas in both the upper and lower engine.
1 quart of oil every 3000 can be considered normal... however... I'd feel more comfortable if your vehicle had 100,000 miles on it. Unfortunately... after 4500 miles... 1/2 quart every 1000 miles is excessive.
If oil is not leaking onto your driveway... then I'm assuming the valve cover gaskets and engine seals are all tight. Oil can also leak into the cooling system if the head gasket is bad. When this occurs you'll find an oil on the water in your radiator. TO TEST: With the engine COLD... remove the radiator cap and insert you finder below the water level. On removing you finder if you see a ring of oil you're in trouble. Or if you don't want to use your finger... you can also shine a flashlight into the radiator and look for an oil slick on the surface of the water. However I doubt that's your problem due to the volume of oil were discussing. This only leaves the valves and rings If its valves or rings I have to believe you'd see "some" smoke.
TO TEST: (2 ways) - 1) After leaving your Rogue sit all night... in the morning stand behind the vehicle and watch the exhaust as someone else starts the car. If any oil is leaking past the rings you'll see a initial cloud of blue smoke (heavy dense smoke) on initial startup. The heavier smoke is not to be confused with the white transparent smoke you usually see when starting up on a cool day when the engine is warming up. 2) With your Rogue warmed up... follow it in another vehicle as it drives around town. As your Rough pulls away from a traffic light after sitting for a couple minutes... if you see any smoke that lingers in the air behind the car... you have a problem and should let the dealer know.
