Ok ive been doing my homework on this problem. sometimes i'm cruising down the street and the oil light comes on, I know i know , i should install a oil pressure gauge , but i'm out of a job right now so that has to wait. should i look into the oil pressure sensor going bad or should i look into the oil pump giving out.

Always start with the easiest. I'm assuming you've already checked oil level and condition ?? Start with the sender then work your way from there. Check the wiring.

Check the oilpan.

See if its dented. Mine was, and it was blocking the pickup. You can just hammer it back out .

An oil light generally indicates a serious problem. If your sender is ok, it means your oil pressure is dangerously low. Where is the dent in the oil pan?

Your right however, it doesnt make sense that all of the sudden that would cause your oil light if youv been driving it for a while.

The dent is near by where the oil plug is at , It almost looks like someone put a garage jack right on the oil pan. The oil light hasnt lit up since that one time. I'm thinking it might be the oil pump giving away slowly or like how you said low oil pressure.

When I removed my oil pan to intall my oil return I also removed my oil pickup. Somehow in a lapse of my "check everthing 10 times", I left the screws holding my oil pickup barely finger tight. They loosend up and I was getting intermittent oil lights coming on. Dropped the pan and the pickup was hanging there.

This could be an issue unless you havent touched your oil pickup at all.
