Anyone else get an oil light for approx 1-1.5 seconds at startup? I replaced what I thought was a bad sender and am still getting the light. Unless this is a pretty common thing, I suppose I need to check oil pressure.

I'd throw that sender in the garbage and put a oil pressure gauge in it's place so you can see what is really going on.

What weight of oil do you run and what is the outside temp back there?

I run 10w40 in the summer and 5w30 in the winter. Right now, ambient temps are in the 50's, but I've had the light in warmer weather too.

I also run an OE filter.

I do, btw, plan on installing some gauges (oil pressure, water temp) in the spring.

Edit: I guess I should really drop the pan after the winter, check the screen on the oil pickup, make sure it's sealed properly, check tolerances in the oil pump, etc. Then again, it's been going on for a while so the damage could already have been done.

Mine does that too.. I think its because in the morning, all the oil is down at the pan. Once you start it up, the oil pump starts pumping oil to the top and that's why it turns off after a few seconds.

I think its normal.. at least I hope it is.

I guess we'll find out one way or another. I think I still might drop the pan this spring, just to see what's going on in there. I can put some Nismo mounts on while the engine's lifted too.

the oil light isn't going to go out until you build oil pressure. if the light is on for 1-2 seconds then it's fine. it's when the light stays on for several seconds (or stays on period) that you need start worrying.

I guess the question is: is it normal to take that long to build oil pressure? I may end up trying to drop the oil pan anyway, since I'd really like to replace the lower tensioner and guides, as well as put some Nismo motor mounts on the car.

Bump...informal survey. Anyone else get an oil light after start-up for 1-2 seconds? I'm going to try to check my oil pressure on Turkey Day, unless it's too damn cold.
