How can I solve an oil leak on top of the valve cover? It is not comming from the side but rather on top of the cover where the bolt goes in. I tried tightening the bolt but no luck..Thanks... My car is 95 240sx..

Usually caused by going to the outside of the bolt hole when resealing the cover with RTV. If you're sure the cover doesn't need to be removed, here's what I would do: Undo the bolt and clean out the hole real well with Brakleen and Q-tips. Put a glob of RTV around the shank of the bolt just under the head. Put the bolt back in and torque it down, making sure the RTV completely fills the gap between the bolt and the cover. Clean up the squeeze out and let it cure for 24 hours.

My motor does that too, but probably getting an SR this winter so I don't care. I just thought it was a fact of life, but I guess not.

I had a similar problemin another car (don't know if it applies here).

There is a Gasket between the cover and the head. you should replace that.

you should take off your valve cover and take a look and see what is the problem.

there are 2 vavle cover gaskets, one for the preimiter, and one that goes along the center for the spark plugs/center bols. Sometimes the bolts that hold the center of the valve cover down have small o-rings on the bolts.
