I got my timing chains replaced last week and ever since i got the car back it has been leaking oil. i went back to the shop and he told me its leaking from the main seal between the engine and trans. the mechanic also told me that i should use thicker oil when i do my next oil change. i asked him if the gasket or seal was broken he said yes. also asked him how much to get a new one and he replied that on a car that old people dont usually have this problem fixed because u have to take out the whole engin and transmission.my question is could the mechanic have done something during the chain replacement to cuz the oil leak?1996240sx173k miles

Not from the rear. I'd be concerned that something was screwed up up front during your timing chain replacement. You say its leaking, where are you seeing it leak from? If its from the front then you need to take it back to him to fix it. He may not have put enough gasket on the lower front cover. Possibly could have screwed up the front main seal.

i iwould get it fixed, its not *that* hard, you have to pull the transmission and the flywheel, some other things too but it isnt too bad

my car started leaking oil like crazy, there would be a 24"by24" oil stain after about 2 hours of the car standing in place. i had to go some where today so i went to a gas station got some oil; put it in and drove the car for like 2 blocks it began smoking out of the exhaust so much you couldnt see anything for at least a block!i'm having no luck with this car back to the shop it goes.
