Hello everyone,

I just took delivery of a brand new G35 M6 2006 sedan. When I inspected the bottom of the car I noticed that there was a drop of oil on the bottom of the clutch bell housing at the seam where the transmission is bolted to the engine. I took off the inspection plate thinking the rear seal is faulty but it is dry on the inside of the transmission bell and the part of the block it covers.

Upon closer inspection I followed an oil trail and noticed that the starter motor is oily as well as a portion of the transmission bell downwind from the starter motor. I could not find any other oily parts of the engine and no apparent source of an oil leak.

Any insight as to why the starter motor would be oily?

Thank you for your insight and/or best guesses.

I would take it right back to the dealer, have them put it up on a lift & have them do an inspection. Ask to accompany the car in the shop. This puts it on record if anything should develop in the future.I also have a 2006 M6 speed sedan with 10k miles. Mine seemed to use a qt of oil/1000 miles but it is using less now with 10k miles. I change my own oil and the car has had three oil changes so far. 1650 mi, 5250 miles, and 8550 miles

A new car should not leak ANY fluids! Take it to the dealer, and have them fix the problem.
