Ok so I just got my SR put in and its freaking AWESOME! but theres already an oil leak that is going to require pretty much full removal of the engine to get to (meaning about 500$ in labor and shop fees). The guy at the shop said that its like an inner oil pan or something. I just want to see if there is someway I can get to fixing the leak without removal of the engine. Im probably not being specific enough but this is all the info I have right now, if more info is required then I will contact the guy and post again. Thanks in advance for the help.

it depends where the leak is originating. If it's from the pan or the pump you shouldn't have to remove the motor out

Ok so I called the guy at the shop and he said that the upper oil pan is where the leak is. Does a leak there require removal of the engine? Theres gotta be another way around this and the 500 bill to fix it.

How bad is the leak?

I'm assuming that you didn’t do the swap; either you bought it already swapped or paid someone to swap it for you.

I have to laugh when I read posts like this. It seems that the SR is such a common swap anymore that people don't take the time to learn how to work on the motor. If you have a couple hours free I’m sure you could find the problem and fix it without any problem.

Wow thats kind of sick of you, laughing at other people that have trouble with their cars and come asking for help. Listen Im 17, getting ready to finish highschool, applying to colleges and working, I dont have the time, skill nor the resources to be working on my car especially on a leak that may require removal of the motor. I came here asking for help and all I get is your stupid response. I am learning as I go along, but starting with no knowledge of cars and attempting an engine swap for your first project is freaking retarded, so I got my swap and now I will start learning. I am learning as I go along and do plan on going to automotive school or something similar and assuming I can fix this problem doesnt really present me with a solution now does it? Thanks for the help buddy.

The Upper oil pan CAN be removed without pulling the engine out from the car.Sould only be a few hours of work.

i had to reply to this seeing that he was just trying to help. first of all if u dont know how to work on a car, have skills or resources than maybe a car that is over 10 years old is not your first choice. he wasnt giving u a stupid response. he was telling u to try and do it on your own being that a mechanic shop is a business and business have to charge money to make money. 240's are really not a good 1st car specially if u live in colder climates. they are worse when u have a stock one with a sr. u came here asking for help so u take the advice and dont act like a punk. if u cant take it maybe u should sell your 240 and buy a civic ya damn bandwagoner

if you've never worked on a car before and have no intention on it either, then why did you buy a pre-modified car? you should have known something would eventually go wrong, if you want sometihng you don't want to worry about buy a civic, or a new car with a warranty...i'm just getting at the point that you complain back to him that you don't have any experience, so you have to pay someone with the ability, you should have known work was going to have to be done...not being a d!ck, just telling you the truth

but on a sidenote, yes you should be able to unbolt the motor mounts and lift it up a bit, and undo the crossmember, which isn't fun, but will work...

Exactly, I came here asking for help and all i get is this guy saying that he has to laugh at me. I dont see why I should listen to the advice of a someone whose first instinct is to laugh at someone with a problem, dont call me a punk just because Im 17, I was in no way over reacting to his response. All he told me was that my situation was funny and that the job could be done in a couple of hours, which isnt the greatest help. I would gladly take advice but not from someone who is laughing at my problem, if you cant understand that then I dont know what to tell you. Speculation doesnt help me. And telling me to buy a civic is too far, just because i SOMEHOW insulted you doesnt mean you need to pull the H bomb (honda), I have no intention whatsoever of changing manufacters anytime soon, but its people like you who dont encourage people like me to learn, only be discouraged and switch to brands like Honda. Wheres your SR unity?

And to TheSparo, I understand where you are coming from but I do have every intention on working on this car, and It didnt come premodified, I was dreaming of putting an sr20 in this car since before I could drive and have worked years at Dominos saving for this and I couldnt be happier. The thing about knowing work would have to be done is true but I just got the swap done and would assume the oil leak would be found before the motor went in. I do appreciate your help and knowing that its possible will help fuel me to do this thing myself. But I hope you can understand why I would be a little frustrated by him saying that this is funny when Im just asking for help.
