heres a picture of it. Its the copper colored thing. Its right on top of the steering rack to the left of the oil filter on a 2001 pathfinder LE 3.5l.
Does anyone know what it is?

That is your oil cooler, this is a fairly common problem on 2001's. It's a somewhat simple fix only requiring you to drain the oil, back off that bolt and replace two o-rings. There's a large o-ring and a small o-ring. You can probably get away with just replacing the large one but it's one of those "while you're in there" kinda things. There's a thread floating around somewhere that talks more about this, I'll see if I can find it.

^^^ +1

it's a simple repair. don't let the dealership steal $300 of your hard-earned money like 01silvapathy did.

I had the same thing a few months ago. I went to my local Infiniti dealer, or Nissan whichever is closer to you. Got the two O rings for around $10 bucks. I had my mechanic replace them during an oil change. It was an extra $25 bucks for him to throw them in.
