I was under my car today and noticed oil dripping where I have never had an oil leak before. I was ALL OVER the bottom of the engine. It seems like its comming from the front of the engine. Either from under the crankshaft pulley or the front of the oil pan. Does anyone know what can be done about this, or does anyone know of any frequent oil leakage problems with the S14 engine.

Thanx

If it is coming from the crank I would say that your front crank seal is gone (I believe that that is what it is called, the seal that goes around the crankshaft and is semi visible from the outside...) Or it could be your front oil seal (hope it's not that that would be a pain!)

I have a similar problem w/ my 90 I believe/ hope it is the crankshaft seal.... It would be easier to fix but it still requires a special tool to get the pulley off... oh well got to do it sometime!

Hope this is useful!

the front main sounds like it's going out. it's not a pain to change. you just need to removed you AC, PS, and Alt belts and then put the car in 4th gear and break the crank pulley bolt. then you can either pry the crank pulley off or get a gear puller to pull it off. the seal sits right behind the pulley, so you just pry the old one out with a screwdriver. I would cover it up with some masking tape first to avoid maring any of the metal. Then take a socket and drive the new one in place. Make sure it goes in straight and not ****eyed.

My car is a 98 S14. IT is the same procedure on this model as well?

I would believe so, not certain though. You should check an FSM for your car... I believe that http://www.zenyon.com has them for your car if you don't already have one... (I think that that is the site name, if you search the forum for 98 FSM's you should find the site for sure if the one I gave isn't correct)

Went outside this morning to take a look. The oil spot is bigger, so I know the leak is getting worse. but it was absorbed...meaning, it wasnt constantly leaking. I believe this is happening only when the car is on. Again...pointing to the crankshaft seal. If it'd ever STOP raining on the stinkin island I could get under there and do sum REAL work.
