Hey guys, I need some advice about what could possibly be causing an oil leak behind my timing cover, I have a '90 2+2 with a '92 JDM TT conversion that was completed this past January. I know for a fact that my mechanic has been in there a 1-2 times to change the cam seals and other things, so I don't have any idea what else could be causing the oil leak besides maybe the intake cam sprockets. Because of him having worked on that part of the engine at least once if not twice within the past 3 months or so, he asked me to monitor my oil level every day (as well as any possible clicking/ticking sounds, oil pressure, etc, etc) with recorded mileage and report it to him to help get to the bottom of the problem.
Anyway, if it is in fact my intake cam sprockets, what are your guys' thoughts on BDE's 300ZX VTC sprockets sold by CZP? They look like a very good sort of upgrade especially considering the cost of oem VTC sprockets. Here's the link to them btw:

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The BDE cam sprockets are a good idea. The old style OEM sprockets are known for leakage. My old NA motor had this problem as well.

Do you have them installed or have you heard of anyone using them on their Z? I just want to make sure BDE is a reputable company since the cam sprockets are obviously an extremely vital part of the engine.

BDE makes some quality parts, I woudn't hesitate to run anything brett makes for the Z.

That's certainly good to hear, if it is in fact my cam sprockets I will most likely order a set of BDE's then. Thanks!

Agreed. The main company to steer clear of is AMS. They make junk and steal everyone's designs.

Agreed, and yes, BDE is top notch stuff. You'll be very happy with the quality.

No not yet, it's such a slow leak that I can drive it and just monitor the oil level/pressure and add some oil occassionally. I am taking it in this Wednesday to get the a/c recharged, so they'll probably re-assess the leak while it's there and maybe further try to find where exactly it's leaking from.

When you're replacing the hose, do yourself a favor and use only OEM Nissan fuel hose, and use 16439-16E0A clamps instead of the screw clamps which come from the factory. The 16439-16E0A is a spring type clamp designed for fuel injection systems and used by Nissan after 1997.
