I took my intercooler off of my car and was checking things out and I found out that there was a little bit of oil running down the charge pipe and straight into the IC. I looked through my FMIC and saw that there was a little bit oil lining the inside. I checked the intake side of the FMIC and hardly any oil pushed through to the other end.

This was not after any hard driving or any driving at all. Just idling. I am still diagnosing car (running way too rich to drive....tunning this week end). I called Project Silvia about the matter and they said that it was normal to find a little bit oil in the IC ( i think they said it was blow by). No I don't have a catch can, just in case you are going to ask.

I trust what Project Silvia with their information but I was just curious as to if anyone else is experiencing this. Does the IC have to cleaned every so often? Will it be safe for track racing (road courses)?

thanks,

Seth

It is caused from blow by and also on occasion a turbo with bad seals(blown) if your unlucky like me <cough>3TIMES<cough>:D

If its just a trace and not a pool its just natural. If there is more than a trace then your turbo seals may be going bad.

I'm assuming that if I start to blow a little bit of smoke through the exhaust (sign of burning oil then I probably have a bad turbo on my hands....right?

Thanks again guys,

Seth

get a catch can or something. this way you wont have to clean your intercooler as often.

Also, you finally got your SR started? what was wrong with it?

Yeah I got it running but its way too rich and it stalls when you try to drive it. My ECU isn't tuned for the blitz 550cc injectors.

But the problem was the clutch. It was an ACT 6 puck unsprung hub and it some how got binded and was grabbing against the flywheel and was at an angle against the input shaft. Anyways the teeth in the center of the clutch (that line up with the input shaft) are all stripped. The shop thinks that it may have been a defective unit. Everything else is perfect.

Going this week end to install my profec e-01 and e-manage and hack into the ECU and get the car driveable :)....hopefully :/

Okay, I know that one hose from the catch can comes off of the front of the "T" fitting on the valve cover, but where does the other hose run to?

The intake stream. The point of a catch can is to catch the blow through oil before it reaches the intake stream again. It is more of a preventative maintenance item, not necessary, but more for eye candy if you engine is running good.
