hello all.. so recently i have found out that there are to spark plug wells with oil in them (both sides, back plugs) so knowing that this was not right i started researching on the problem and find out how to fix it.. i have download a manual for the car for tearing the car apart piece by piece.. unfortunately it doesn't tell you if this is the problem then do this and replace this. so i figured that from what i know in general and looking at the manual, that i need to replace all gaskets.. and to jump back a bit i found out that nissan has grommets in the valve cover and that they can be a big pain to take out? im looking to replace these grommets specifically having a extremely good reasoning that this is the problem.. now comes down to the real question.. do i replace the whole valve cover?(reason i ask is cause i have seen it multiple times) or do i just replace the grommets? ive read that they are stuck in place or glued.. so if this is the case i would like to know is replacing the valve cover really worth it? to me it just seems like its the grommets that is failing so why replace the whole valve cover.. and also for replacing gaskets.. what is the best brand to go with? i believe this brings an end to my rambling on. please respond all who read this and have dealt with this problem. i appreciate any help in advance. thanks all :bigthumb:

I had this on my G35 when I had it, and this is a very common problem. Nissan was oh so kind to have the valve cover gasket (and plug tube grommets) built into the valve cover. So you have two options here. You can either replace the valve cover entirely (what most people do), or you can send out yours to this company that will modify your factory covers to accept replaceable gaskets/grommets. I can't remember the name of the company, but I know that service is out there. It's about the same cost up front, but with more down time, as you have to ship out your valve cover gaskets (which is why most don't do this, lol). It's worth it in the long run if you can have the car down for a couple weeks while they modify the covers. Otherwise, I'd just order up a new set of valve covers from Nissan directly or any of our forum sponsors that carry them.

The company is R&D Factory, you can send them your covers and they'll ship you a new set ready to install or you can buy a DIY install kit.

ok.. so then i guess my next question is.. how often do they fail? because if this is a common issue.. then there has to be another way to fix it.. thank you for your responses!

Not sure, since I only had to replace them once. But my motor had about 70k on the clock when I had to.

I've got 160K on mine, noticed some dampness on a single plug when I changed plugs late last summer. I'll be putting on new covers sometime in the spring.

ok thank you for all the responses.. and of course i like to get as much information as i can get before doing something that is important to me.. and me wanting more information had me talking to a couple guys at work and they told me that it was the head gasket that the issue was and that with the engine Nissan made they had made the heads aluminum which apparently tend to warp.. now my car has about 46k miles on it.. so i would think that with this many miles i shouldn't be presented with a problem like this.. so i guess the question is.. if this is true.. shouldn't Nissan have put out a recall to fix this issue and as well if this is possible.. how far do i need to go to figure out the exact problem.. so far all the symptoms are is that there was oil found in the spark plug wells of the back 2 spark plugs.. thank you for the responses!

It is definitely not the head gasket. The heads and block are just fine, lol.
