Putting in new spark plugs, I noticed one the spark plug chambers was filled with a lot of oil. Any idea what may cause this and how to fix?

Time to replace your valve cover gaskets before you finish your spark plug job.

Use only OEM for both.

unfortunately i went ahead and changed the spark plug anyway. Some oil got into the cylinder of course and when I finally started my engine smoke came out of the exhaust for a minture or so. Did I harm my engine badly? Or did the oil just burn out without harming my engine?

The oil just burned off the pistons. No worries.
