oil in radiator, what could cause this?

my search yeilded a bunch of results about milky oil and the like, but my problem involves oil in the radiator. checked the coolant and it had oil drops floating on top of the antifreeze. the car does not smoke at all.

most likley its a bad h.g., but i'd like to find out what else or what scenarios would lead to oil in the coolant.

auto trans or manual trans? if auto it could be your trans cooler is leaking into the radiator.

auto. how could i test to verify if this is it or not?

check your trans fluid. Is it milky pink? isnstead of buing a new radiator if it isin fact your problem you could buy an auxilary trans cooler and just plug off the cooler ports on the radiator and connect the hoses to the auxilary cooler.
