Hey guys, while replacing a blown bypass hose I noticed tons of oil throughout my coolant system. I haven't noticed the car running funny, there is no coolant in the oil and no white smoke, just oil in my coolant.

Next week I'm going to flush my system out but I was wondering what could possibly cause this. Thanks

Why would there not be water in my oil then?

you can expect it to run great right up until the time of its untimely death, do yourself a favor and replace the head gasket its a 6-8 hour job for someone who hasnt done one before and it prolongs the lifespan of your car as opposed to having yet another "SR20DET Swap Ready" ad in the classifieds

Well should I replace anything else while its opened up?

There has been work done before since there is silicone around the seal but Im not sure what it was.

Im leaning towards letting it die and just replacing with a ka24de

and theres no way, unless i get way more money than what its worth, that a start a for sale ad. Besides the engine problems, small scratches and minor dents, this thing is near perfect.

Anyway thanks for the responses

if i were you i would figure out whether its less expensive to motor swap to a twin cam or to replace the head gasket, myself, i would do the twin cam swap, my S14 has the original 220,000 twin cam, bone stock mind you, not even a cold air intake, and i drift it mercilessly, as long as you take care of your engine per your treatment towards it, (i.e. in my case oil change every 1000-1500 miles, spark plugs every 5000 miles fuel injector cleaner every 5 tanks of 93 octane, and i only run full synthetic royal purple race oil 5w30 or nippon oil when ive got the pennies saved up) and it will treat you fine

if its a sohc, ive heard its a common problem. my previous 240 had this same situation. the coolant looked like chocolate pudding when cold, but my oil was fine. my mechanic looked at it and said that the chain gets loose and wears away at the head, it puts a tiny weep hole into the coolant system, and oil gets into your coolant. i thought it was the weirdest thing, but thats what it turned out to be

This, but check the link below first, to see if it's a TSB. If it's a fairly common problem, it usually is, or better still, a recall. Neither the BHG or this quoted answer are technically wrong at a glance of the problem, but you'll want to be sure about which it could be before you start digging into them. Well, unless you have more money than Bill Gates and more spare time than a Wal-Mart greeter...

It is the ka24e. Then I guess I might as well replace with a DE. What parts should I replace before putting a used engine in though? And can I use my spark plugs and wires? And fuel injectors?

That's interesting....worked when I linked it...next!

EDIT: for some reason...making it as a hotlink changes the domain name to nicoclub...

EDIT 2: To hell with it. Google Nissan TSB, its the first link. What a retarded way to cover up rival forums

Ok i found it but what does it mean? Can i go to the dealership and complain?

Well, you can *always* complain

If its a TSB, no, but they'll probably be able to fix it relatively fast and easy. Usually TSBs come with kit numbers to address the problems listed in them.

If its a recall, yes, and it should still be free if you qualify for the work. You'll want to call the local Nissan dealer to see if your particular model year is eligible for it.

well my G35 s/c was having issues after the tune i just got... on way to get it fixed, started running weird so i turned it off and called tow truck.... when i popped the hood, my coolant resivor was all the full and boiling... when i opened the cap to relieve some pressure, the coolant that leaked out had what looked like oil in it....... needless to say, the car was towed to Forged Performance in ATL and is getting a new motor right now... oh yea and a badass correct tune...
