Hey, I smashed my greddy vspec intercooler, limped home a few blocks and when i take the thing off there is what looks like motor oil just chillin at the bottom of the intercooler and the elbow pipes. doesn't look like it was running through there, cause there wasn't all that much and none in the upper piping, but i doubt it was already there. Any Ideas? XAT racing put everything in, and i have only been driving it for off and on like 2 months

Oil in your intercooler could be caused by excessive blow-by which is why a lot of us are running the catch cans. Factory setup routes the blow-by back in through the intake. You put the can inbetween and the can catches the oil. Since you said there wasn't much there I would say thats where it came from BUT still call XAT since they installed the motor and see what they think, they should stand behind they're work.

could also be a blown seal on the turbo. you can take off the intake and piping and inspect shaft play. i wouldn't blame xat.. but i would call them and tell them that if it is the turbo they gave you a bad one.

much of the time, if your turbo seals are blown, your car will smoke from the exhaust.

at least that's what james at g-dimension told me

So Do you think that it would be safe to reinstall an intercooler? of course i'd clean out the piping

i think its just mild case of excessive blow-by... which is somewhat normal under average conditions:)

Your fine to put it back in, invest in a catch can....$75. You could probably find it cheaper. It doesn't have to be a name brand or fancy for that matter... it just has to work. That should clean up most of that blow-by.
