Hey everyone. I just bought a new SR20DET from a reputable dealer and I have a question. Is it common for oil to be in strange places because of all the shaking/turning/tipping/etc. during shipping? The reason I ask is that when I took off the intake hose/boot I looked in and there was a pool of oil in there. I tipped the engine and dumped some of it out, but I wasn't able to get it all. I've posted a picture so that you can see what I'm talking about. Any ideas? Thanks!

when i bought my vg30et there was oil in the turbo as well. my turbo was bad. spin the wheels to see if it spins freely and see if there is any shaft play. if it doesn't spin freely and there is shaft play you will need a new turbo.

Last SR20 I got not only had about a quart of oil in the turbo, but a shard of glass aswell. I suspect that they sit in really weird positions for a long time and that's how the oil got in there, cause the turbo appears to be fine, and the motor only looked to have about 10,000 miles on it. I'm not saying that your turbo isn't bad, but, it's doesn't seem to be uncommon for all that oil to be in there...god knows how that shard of glass got in there....musta been sitting below a clip and a piece of windshield fell into it?? The piping was covered with duct tape when I got it, but who knows if it was in japan??

Alright, I was able to spin the wheel with a screw driver from the intake side. It spun freely and didn't seem to have any play in it. I won't be putting the engine in for at least another month, so I guess all I can do is wait now.

Thanks for the help guys!
