hey guys,
My S13 recently overheated and overheated bad. Recently did a radiator change on it (flushed it and burped it) and it was being great. About 2 weeks later, I left the door partially open and killed the battery. I jumped it and went inside to let it do its thing. about 10 mins later my roommate came in saying it was smoking. Coolant was boiling in the overflow.

I'm assuming its the head gasket at this point, I pulled the water pump and thermostat and both are good (boil tested the Thermostat). There is no coolant in the oil from what I can see, however the coolant from the rad and from the engine have a terrible brown in it (pics below). Is it oil in my coolant (it was green when i put it in lol). Thanks in advance.

I almost guarantee its a head gasket. If you just changed. Your coolant and looks like that than its done for. The boiling over happening is probably from cylinder pressure leaking into the cooling system. If your not sure get a block tester from Napa. That will tell you for sure if its head gasket.

It looks like you had ran water in the radiator for a while making the rusty brown sediment, then you put in the 50/50, and then it overheated. Dont check your coolant for oil check you oil for coolant! but yeah im betting headgasket.

Oil is fine, no coolant in the oil. checked my fill cap, dipstick and dropped some in a pan to see if it was at the bottom, no milkshake, just oil.

If your coolant looks like that and your concerned its the head gasket do the block test. You can have a head gasket blown without oil getting in your coolant and visa versa. The combustion can leak only to a coolant port causing pressure to builld and spew combustion air and coolant.the block tester will detect fuel particals in the coolant and change colors which means head gasket.if it does not change colors its not the head gasket. Do the block test and get back to us. seriously very simple.

sweet, I'll see if any of the parts stores around here carry the tester.

I get the leak tester in tomorrow, so to be ready i filled it with coolant and proceeded to "burp" it. thats when I noticed a clattering/knocking sound and threw my ratchet at the wall. this is beginning to become one problem after another.

The sound is coming from the valve cover/pullys area. I know thats insanely vague, but anyone have a clue to what it is?

Cooling system pressure tester and compression tester..... sounds like a warped head and gasket to me..... You need to have the head checked and milled.

used the compression leak tester. no leak. sound smoothed out as well while it i did the test. more than likely its going to end badly, but im going to drive on it until i get the rest of my parts in for a rebuilt. Thanks for all your help!
