I live in Georgia and winters are rarely under 20F at driving time.

RB25: I'm thinking 10w30 for winter, but for summer should I run 10w40?

I'd be using Mobil 1 Synthetic. I tried to do my own research dealing with thickness and such, as I've never really understood oil other than what people tell me to use.

I was told by the lead engine engineer and design engineer of the RB engine series to use 10w40 in the summer and 15w60 in the winter.

thats your first mistake right there. you should try using royal purple or nipon oil products.

i love how n00bs **** on oil brands like they know their exact ingredients and have run scientific tests on them to prove they are bad. mobil 1 is perfectly fine.

edit: to answer the OPs question.. if your motor has factory oil clearances, why don't you run the factory recommended oil weight?

What negative experience have you had with Mobil 1 to say that? I have several friends that daily drive some pretty high hp cars and have used Mobil 1 from the beginning. There have been no issues with any of them. I also have some friends that road race on a regular basis in 95+ degree weather with at least 85-90% humidity with no issues from Mobil 1. I worked for a shop for a while that used Mobil 1 pretty much exclusively including the owners car and never had any issues with it.

Mobil 1 is fine for the vast majority of the engines in this forum. Why spend 50 bucks on an oil change when the engine doesnt require it?

Weird, because I researched the oil that's used in RB's and Mobil 1 was used quite a bit...

this thread has become worthless...for what its worth my engine seemed to burn thru royal purple like nothing...where mobil one runs just fine.mobil one was the first synthetic on the market, and in the end its personal choice.

Sorry, I didn't mean for it to. I only wanted to know if I were using the correct weight, not brand. I trust Mobil 1 enough already.

Carl, you have been reading the aussie boards WAY to much

By the way, I wonder if Racinjitter is completly lying through his teeth, or he's just retarded enough to believe some douche bag that told him that info. Hmmmm....

O, and I run 5W-50, but I'm in Okinawa and it doesn't really get cold here.
