Oil gauge pegged when started up???

Discuss the RB20, RB25 and RB26 series engines.

I dont have the factory clutster but my car came with some cheaper style gauges installed (not auto meter). When I start the car the oil presure will be pegged at 100 but once the high idle drops down, it will sit at around 30-40 I think. Do you think this is just a defective gauge or is that normal?

cold oil is thicker

its normal.

this is one of the major reasons you dont beat on your car while its cold.

Mine peggs about 110 on cold start. So your alright.

ok thats good to know, I just wanted to check though. Didnt seem right at first and I know the temperature has a lot to do with it. I just didnt think it would peg the gauge but it would drop within a few minutes so I didnt think it was serious.

Mine also, about 100 PSI cold. Normal after warm up
