a recent thread about oil changes also mentioned using Nissan oil filters. While I am sure they are fine, I noticed when I changed my oil for recently, the Nissan filter was made in China and looked pretty cheap. I used a Fram Extra Guard and Valvoline full syn.

I know appearances can be deceiving, but the Nissan filter looked like junk. Opinons?

Your Nissan filter was made in China? What model muber was it? I use the 15208-9E000 which is the slightly larger filter. That one has "Made in Japan" on the side. I bought several of them from Infiniti of Scottsdale in early 2006, so maybe they changed suppliers? Hopefully not...

I trust that the engineers specified the best filter available for the car... could be wrong, but I wouldn't think they would skimp on the filter for an engine they have to warranty for a few $$$. Especially since they only buy the first one.

I were going to go aftermarket I would get the Mobil 1 filter over the Fram. For the most part I have found that that bright orange is not well regarded by service advisors and technicians. Another consideration, if you're under warranty, is that if you have some sort of engine issue that could possibly be blamed on the filter - you have given them one less thing to fight about if you're using their filter. The service manual and owner's manual says "Use genuine Nissan Filter or equivalent" and I wouldn't want to be the guy that had to hire an engineer to prove that my filter choice was truely "equivalent" if I was in a warranty dispute.

Just my thoughts...

I can't give the number of the china filter because it is gone now. It was installed by the dealer when I bought the car.

I don't think that I would have an issue with warranty if I am using a major manufacturer's oil filter. Fram might be a little pissed if the dealer wanted to reject them.

All that being said, as clean as cars burn these days, I suspect that any decent filter that does not impede flow will do a good job. China is another issue. Also, techs and service advisors are also subject to marketing and influence from "the man."

I stick with NAPA gold filters...

I read a report once upon a time that said they were the best in filtration. The problem is that you don't want a filter that is too constrictive when it filters out containments. If the filter is too restrictive then the oil will flow through the bypass, eliminating any filtration.

The K&N filters were some of the worst for this... Fram was ok, but didn't filter as much...

I think the Mobil 1 filters are obnoxiously priced. I just recently saw an fram Extended Guard.

It's supposed to be designed for extended change intervals (says 7500 miles on it). The picture made the filter material look like a K&N air filter with the metal mesh and fibers.

HUGE QUESTION!!! Why is the G35 oil filter so small? The one for the I30 and I35 is about 70%-100% larger.

There is a short one and a tall one that can be used on your G. Ask your Nissan dealer. Either one will work fine!

If the unfavorable things that you heard regarding Fram filters came from other Ford owners, perhaps it was the Fords dying on the road and the owners were just trying to blame the oil filters to avoid embarrassment? Hearsay.....Inadmissible!

For those of the old school that change oil every 3k-3.5k miles IT DOESN'T MATTER whether you use Nissan or any other quality filter. I don't think Fram is a bad product and I have a few that I haven't used yet.
