just wondering if there is really a need to get an OEM oil filter for a 90Q if the oil is changed every three months. looking to get a injector/rail clean and oil change this week but might get hung up if i have to track down the nissan filter. is there a good choice that can be found at pep boys/autozone etc...? thanks jeff

The OEM oil filter is pretty good. Many of the real cheap filters are not real well constructed. Some of which could break while on the car sending filter paper thru the engine.

This happend more often than many PPL think. The only cheap filter I have not heard bad things about and that fits the Q is the WalMart SuperTech ST3600.It fits the Q but has some extra internal volume for extra capacity. But its price make me wonder how well made it is.Anyway I took the plunge and am running one on this oil change as an experiment. But I wil probably stay with the Nissan/Infiniti filter 15218-60U00 as long as its available (I have 7) and then teh 15218-55Y00 when my stock of the 60U00 is exhausted.

Autozone carries Mobil 1 filters, the only brand I use on my cars. The filter # for the Q is M-208 and depending on the store, should cost around 12 bucks.

The question about oil filters besides filtration is the exact opening point of the internal bypass valve. Many cheapos open at 2,000 -2333 rpm [30 psi] so the oil is not being filtered at 60-70 mph cruise. Some say the OEM valve opens as high as 60 psi.

One can only hope that the oem unit takes this into consideration.Having great filtration means nothing if the valve is set too low.

However the oem Q45 oil filter [made in Japan] has been changed [recently] to a mexican made unit ...........whether this new replacement is as good is still being determined.

The reason you change oil and filters every 90 days is to make the engine last 250,000 miles or more. Most of the damage is done early and suddenly being good to a mistreated engine can only maintain the status quo.......it can't heal wear!

As you well know thanks to NAFTA something can be made in any of the three countries and boxed in US or even the box can be printed in US and ..............its made in US.

" Effective on January 1, 2003, MAHLE will reorganize its North American Filter activities. MAHLE-Parr Filter Systems, Inc. will be merged into Tennex Industries Inc.

The combined company will as well include MAHLE's Mexican filter operations.

The merger is a consequence of MAHLE's August 24, 2001, majority share acquisition of the Japanese Tennex Corporation (now: MAHLE Tennex Corporation). The name of the merged company will be changed to MAHLE Tennex North America, Inc. with headquarters in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and more locations in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Des Moines and Winterset, Iowa

and Puebla, Mexico. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My point was change may never be good in this age of costcutting. They sure didn't change filters because of compliants that the engines were not lasting long enough.Just doesn't make sense to ship them from Japan any longer.

They mention the price reductions in there annual report that forced the changes.

Tennex Corporation, a former subsidiary of the Nissan Group, will therefore be integrated within MAHLE's Filter Systems Business Unit as a majority holding by Mahle.

One thing to say in favor of the operation in Puebla is that it is the most European like area of Mexico and that the VW plant is located there. They may well have sufficient expertise in the labor force to build the filter to factory specifications if the company requires it.
