Since we recently had some interest in oil filters I like to point out some known good ones

Great VH45DE filters (brands apply to all motors):

(the first three below are oversized ie they fit, but are longer for more capacity):

SuperTech ST3600 $1.97 (Made by Champion for WalMart; Top bypass valve design, claims paper media is synthetic a la Mobil 1's filter;)

STP S3600 $2.99 (Auto Zone;apears same as SuperTech as far as I can tell and made by Champion Labs; Top bypass valve design)

Motorcraft FL-400S $2.99 (Another Champion made filter; available at Wal-Mart/Advance Auto/Auto Zone and elsewhere; Top bypass valve design;)

Also the Bosch ( forgot the Designator)And of course the Nissan OEM's, especially if they are an OEM and that is still actually made in Japan (japanese characters on the filter)

The old favorites MOBIL1 and K&N are also very good w/ great filter media. How ever even this fanatic has stopped buying the MOBIL1 filter, cuz I feel there are so many very good alternatives at much less cost.(less cost= less resistance to frequent changes, I change every 2700 to 3300 miles, so I always have fresh and clean full syn oil to back up my 7300 rpm moments)

Fred...:)

Great post! I'll never have Motorcraft (aka FORD) on my car... worthless ba$^@&*$! - but the others are interesting...

I think it should be in Engineering, as I would never look in General Chat for technical information. To much noise and detritus.

I've heard bad things about the PureOne fliter. My buddy says he's seen some really "weird oil pressures" from those things on his engine dyno. I read a 10 page article on filters that said the 2 best ones on the market were the K&N and the AC delco.

I'll have to dig the article up and let everybody take a look through it.

If anyone happens to come to my town and go to Advance, watch about this one girl that works there...She questioned everything I asked her. I got online to just get a price range on some other oil filters and thought about going with a Penzoil oil filter, went there asked her if they had any and gave me a look like Penzoil has an oil filter? lol Then got the wrong air filter for my car and said this is for your car I said my air filter is cylinder not a box shape. I had written down precisely 2 differ vehicles and what I needed and she got them backwards....I think I stood there and argued over a oil filter on what brands I knew about and her saying never heard of it. I think they had K&N on the computer but wasn't in stock I would had to order it over night. Half of what I asked they didnt have or had to order it.

I like Fram, and i have a Puralator PURE ONE, on my car now. i don't notice anything odd. but i do notice that i hate mobil oil, at least the synthetic-blend. the oil is black and i am not even to 3k yet! i'm going back to Castrol, that's what i had in the car before.

I thought on my next oil change I would put that Purolator filter on the car and run 5w-30 later to see how it does. :) But all oil I put in it is Castrol. I might not change it just yet b/c not really time for another one but when this weather quit being rainy or cold all the time.
