my take is its better to have than not have. and have had various kinds on all my vehicles.

i found a site that has the magnet drop into the filter itself. now while having the magnet actually in the filter it might catch more than on the outside but do you guys feel the little bit of restricted flow is harmful?

to be honest it scares me a little and i think ill stick with the outside ones, but two heads are better than one.

ive cut open filters with the magnets and there is so much crap on them id never run a car without one.

what say you.

Makes perfect sense to me to have one somewhere in the system, although I'm not sure the filter is the best spot. I'd be concerned about impeded flow potentially doing more harm than the magnet doing good.

Drain plugs with magnets are fairly typical.

Airplane gearboxes will often have them wired to a chip detector light, so you know right off the bat if it's picked up something,

That's because metal sinks when in oil.

Differential, oil pan, and transmission pan have them.

My oil pan didn't come stock with a magnetic plug. Did yours? My diffs do? Haven't checked the Trans so I can't say about it.

I've seen those magnetic plugs on eBay and thought, hmmm....

I've also seen those big magnets that go around the outside of the filter and thought, hmmmm....

What most don't realize is that used oil filters are frequently in bypass mode during cold crank, acceleration, and high speed cruising. USED Oil filters really are only working at warm idle and 45-65 mph cruising.Plus the antidrain back valve loses function with hours of use!

Why most recommend <65 hours as the operational limit.

65 x 60mph = <3900 miles.

Strange that Infiniti recommend 3750 mile interval if maximum engine life is desired!

I have been wondering this. I change oil probably too soon, so clogging is not an issue. Shoot I have not ever been a qt. low in my life.

But if a magnet is attached to filter, and as the original poster said-he saw significant attraction, then it would be superior would it not? I wouldn't dare out one inside, but outside might work? q45tech? Anyone?

Then i was wondering... and this might be overboard, but wouldn't the magnets also attract the additive package like in Rear Diff? Maybe it is hurting?

Get rid of them or add more? The question to me is not what is fine, but what is best.
