well yesterday i went upon changing my oil, alittle bit over the 3000 miles but oh well who can get that timing perfect anywase. so i took off the oil plug, then went upon taking off the oil filter. at first i used a oil filter cap (socket style), kept slipping, so i switched over to a wrench type, it ripped a hole into the filter. so i'm like what the f@ck, i call autozone and they say use a screwdriver and hammer to try to twist it by prying it sort of. i do that and it rips my filter even more. now my oil filters f@#ked, all tore up and hasn't even moved yet. i go and by a different style filter remover, the circle strap style that tightens as you move it, i barely have any filter left to attach it to and that didn't work out to well. so now i'm stuck with a oil filter that is all tore up at the end, and hasn't even moved yet. what do u guys think happened, could it have gotten so hot that it welded it self on to the block. i have no idea how to take it off, no room, and the end part of the filter is about gone. :help this is on a s13 with the ka24de.:help IT HAS NOT MOVED ONE INCH YET, AND I AM TWISTING IT THE RIGHT WAY, TO THE LEFT THAT IS, COUNTER-CLOCK WISE!!

This is why people have to learn to only hand tighten the oil filter, people go crazy with the oilfilter wrenches and your really dont need to.

You might just have to cut it off with a drill, dremel, and assortment of bits and cutting disks. The only other thing i can think of is to puncture the oil filter with a screw driver as close to the base as you can and as strait through as you can and try and rotate it that way.

Worst case senario, you have to remove the filter braket and get a new one off a junk car.

alright, i'll try that, i still need to try to take it off with a big oil filter wrench. i didn't put this oil filter on, a local oil place changed my oil the last time it was changed.

I am not a fan of the screw driver idea. But I guess it is ok as a last resort. I've always use a strap style wrench to remove the filters. And for the new smaller ones I use an adjustable jaw wrench for a 3/8 ratchet. Never really had any trouble with either. I would try to wrap a towel around it get some gloves and muscle it off of there.

The point is you shouldnt need a nut on the end to take it off. I lightly tighten mine by hand, it never leeks, it never loosens, and it comes off real easy by hand the next time I have to change oil.

The screwdriver is a last resort? It's my first resort...I've done it almost every time I've changed the oil :) In fact, it's almost easier than trying to get it off by hand usually. Oh, I wouldn't do it too close to the base though, you dont want to hit the threads of the little oil filter extension thingy.

Same here, it really does prevent a lot of hassle. I've got an oil filter wrench, and the only time I've ever had to use it was when *someone* else changed by oil. Bet you can guess who changes my oil now...me!

****, I hate letting other people work on my car. I'd love to find the monkey who stripped the hole for one of my valve cover bolts. Probably used freakin' air tools to torque that thing down!

I change all oil filters by hand jsut get a isometric hand excersizer or some hand grips and work those hand muscles out. Its the easiest way baby unless your filter is in a gay spot.

yeah, i do it by hand. When i installed my sr i forgot to take the old oil filter off when i put it in. So i had to do tha stab with a screw driver trickIts not real fun, the idea is to get the screw driver ALL the way through the filter. Otherwise yea you will rip that **** out of it.

you know when someone tells you to put a little oil on the new filter gasket before you put i on the car there is a reason for that. It keeps this type of problem from happening. Whoever did the oil change probably just spun the filter on dry then tightened it down. over the corse of 3000 miles or so the rubber melts a bit and bonds the filter to the block. Its a ***** but usually comes off after a few hard trys.

hope you get it off.

Have you tried it since the motor has cooled? It's usually on a little tighter when warm. It may have loosed up a bit by now.

Worst case scenario, use a drill bit to drill into the core of the filter. The outer shell is rather thin and a scredriver that doesn't go through the core will probably rip through the skin if the filter is on too tight. Use the drill to make a hole through the core that you can stick the screwdriver through.

if it doesn come off by hand, screwdrive it is.. but you HAVE to stab through the first side and the hte next side too (so you have to stab just ot the side of the core, so that you can get through both sides) this way it wont peel. sometimes if the threads are really grimmey, youll have to stab it twice becasue the screw driver wont go all the way around..

if it starts to peel STOP, and get better leverage so it wont peel, if you cant get better leverage, make a new hole. but yah you shouldtn be tightening it like crazy. its not necessary.

You should try stabbing it 3 times or drilling 3 holes through the side of the filter and then sticking 3 screwdrivers on it to get more leverage or maybe jsut 2.

That's going way overboard...just bust out a long philips screwdriver and a hammer, about 1/3 of the way down from the top hammer it all the way through until the handle is against the filter. Then it's easy to get enough leverage to get it off, no matter how stuck it is.

yea i did the same thing once. it took me almost 3hrs to get it off. i used a hammer, and metal cutters and 3 screw drivers and a prybar to get it off. the filter was in like 100 pieces. i ripped everything off except for the part that screws onto the block. that part has holes in it that you can put a screw driver in and hit w/ a hammer and turn it. but yea, next time only hand tighten it.

maaan.. get out the elbow grease, wrap a towel around the beyotch and take it out.

heh and make sure you're turning it the right way... to the LEFT (counter ****wise). I had my friend help me change my oil over the summer and I told him to take off the filter... he said he couldnt get it off so I was like show me what you're doing...... he was turning it the wrong way... DO'OH I still wont let him forget that one.

the filter is not off yet..i'm thinking, i'm gonna take it to a shop to chisel it off. you have no clearance at all when you try to get at it. it's all gone, the half of the filter that sticks out, all the filteration filter, and all that is left is half the filter (literally half of it) and the the metal piece with all the holes and the nut. i tried all i have, i stuck everything into it, to try to pry it off. i stuck a needle nose plier( a really hard and tough one) into the holes and twisted it by putting a screw driver inbetween the two handles, pushed hard, all it did was twisted the plier. i'll try one last time tomorrow if i can't move it, i'm gonna take it to the shop. help...!!!!

Do you have locking pliers? try to peel up a sturdy chunk o metal on it and clamp down, then just keep wrenching away.

matt, you'll learn to appreciate that nut if you keep your stock intake mani for a while and don't get a relocation kit. human hands were not meant to fit in there
