Alright. My oilfilter has been on sence i got the motor. I never tried to take it off when the motor was out becasue i was planning on doing the change as soon as i got it in the car. I did the oil change. I have done several but i can't get the damn filter off!

I got one of those huge black sockets and it just slips on the filter. I can't get more than one or twi fingers round it because of how it is mounted and i can't even do the screwdriver trick because there doesn't seem to be any room.

I'm trying to avoid having to remove my alternator. :help

I had the same problem too. I am not sure if you have tried this, doesn't sound like it, but there there is a tool (dunno the proper name for them-Oil filter removal clamps or something) with three prongs you attach to a ratchet. The prongs close inward as you turn. At first they slipped a bit, but you have to get them started and the thing just clamps onto the filter and will definitely break it loose. I had to crank on mine until the prongs partially crushed the filter. Did the trick though.

You just have to grip the hell out of it and turn turn turn. The oil filter is often put on too tight, which is wrong because it's only suppose to be a 2/3 turn after feeling resistance. My mechanic always puts it on too tight so when I change it myself sometimes, it's a b**ch trying to get it off. I can usually reach in with my whole arm if I move some of the tubes around. Good luck though, that rachet tool sounds pretty cool....Also, when you put the oil filter on, did you coat the rim of it with oil? You should do that.....that might help lubricate it.

Sounds like he already had tried that. And he didn't put that filter on. Someone in Japan did, probably long, long ago. Rob DET- just occurred to me- your engine is IN the car already, right? If so I guess you just learned the hard way to replace even the oil filter before drpping in the new engine. The tool I was talking about won't work if the engine is already in the car, unless they sell different versions of it.

If nothing works and you dont care how the filter comes off grab it with a nice sized crescent wrench and squeeze the bottom so its not round anymore (no more slipping) then wrench it off!this is the pissed off last chance method so make sure your hella angry and your wrenching on it like your girlfriends neck after you found out she's cheated on you. i got one of those, and it's pretty cool. has ports for oil temp sensors etc. and makes changing the filter sooo easy. people will laugh at how cute the little the filter you are proudly mounting in full view is though. between that and my miniaturized battery, the ignorant poke lots of fun. weird thing though- the fittings and hoses are all Earl's, but licensed by Greddy. the plastic packaging on each clamp says " Earl's- product liscenced by Greddy."

AutoZone has a tool that fits the oil filter directly. It's a perfect fit, you put it on, then tap the end a few times to get it tightened down on the filter, then you put your ratchet in, and start turning.

Thats what I use.

you could always take it somewhere and laugh as the poor bastard busts his knuckles on the block getting it off and then realizes that the KA oil filter doesn't fit on it.

I have the autozone thing. The filter that is on there now is not nissan so it may not have a standard size end (where the socket thing attaches) The one i have just slips...

I have thought about doing somehting to destroy the housing to make it easier to turn but there really isn't any way to get to the side of it. Next payday i'm getting that greddy relocation kit. Maybe a cooler too.

Be careful. Mine was also frozen, but I have the engine out. I put one of the ratchet attachments on mine, and instead of turning and coming off, the whole stud that the filter screws onto broke.

Fortunately, I have the Greddy Reloc. kit and its adapter is still able to screw on and tighten up.

heres what i did...maybe not the best plan...but it worked. Put the front of the car on jackstandsLocate the filter, and proceed to hammer a straight screwdriver directly up into the oil filter. then twist. It gave me enough leverage to move it a little bit. I did this like 3 times then it came off.

I had to do the screwdriver trick when I took mine off for the first time. Fortunately I still had it out of the car.

Needless to say I quickly purchased the Greddy relocation kit.

one more option to suggest is that you can purchase K&N oil filters which have a 1inch square fitting on top to get a 1 inch wrench on :)

40$?? I only paid 10$ for the K&N, but i never used the damn socket..so you can only get to it w/ your hand? not even a shorty screwdriver to punch through it?you sure your turning it to the left? hahaha J/kwell when I get my sr i'll make sure to do it before I put it in.
