Hey guys,

I have a 1991 Q45a (G50) and have a hell of a time reaching the oil filter!I'd like to get a Oil Filter Relocator to mount it somewhere else.

Has anyone else done this?

If so, what brand do you recomend?

Thanks for all your help.

Best Regards,Vinay

I am running a relocator. Love it. You can get a kit just about anywherebased on your application. Rubber lines with hose clamps are a big no-no!I'm running 1500psi cat hose. Better safe than blown up! I really should do a write up on mine.

Superuber,

What kit did you use? I checked quickly online, and could not find anything for a Q45 or 300ZX.

And a write up would be GREAT!

1500 psi is waaay excessive, what is the max psi that motor will ever produce for oil? What MAAAYBE 300psi? 1500 is just waay over board I'd go for 2500 psi though... LOL!

I've personally used the TransDapt dual filter relocator on my KA powered 240, and it was really easy to setup.

Yeah, here's a suggestion-don't use rubber hose and clamps. Unless of course you want a new JDM motor!Atleast get a high pressure braided hose with fittings.

yes i can verify that it will fit. im speaking of the adapter to block piece. heres my problem. where do i mount the remote brkt. for oil canister?.removed air box & it will fit there. i would still need to remove the airbox to access filter. if i need go thru that i may as well just remove the stock filter after removing airbox. 1 suggestion was to relocate carbon canister behind airbox. after removing carb. can. i could not make that all happen as the carb. can., is to large.(when i say behind i mean to left of on fender) . i would really like to hear from someone who has done this w/stock air box in place. a possible location is right at the shock tower but any drippage will go right to ex. man. do not like smell of burnt oil. lemme know

I just got this from Canton Racing Products, the 90 Deg part that goes on the block.

http://www.cantonracingproduct...#cast

I hope it's going to fit, it's a bit tight on the Active cars. I'll set it up this weekend.

I'm planning on putting the filter where the air box was. I'm running a K&N Air Filter I got from Stillen long ago. Don't think it does much for power, but it sounds nicer when you are hard on the throttle, and lots of extra room under the hood.

I'll need to measure the lines, but I think around a foot will be good.

qship, how would i access that area??? can not find that cooler in my FSM. looked @ parts diagram but no help there.

vinay, i have no desire remove stock airbox. i'm just trying to make filter changes a bit easier w/out re-engineering the damn thing.

Another place I was thinking of mounting it was on the passenger side, behind the battery, near the Fuse Box. I have a PA Speaker mounted there, but there is plenty of space.

search site for Maxnix {Brian} transmission cooler install,as he mounted his transmission cooler in the spot I am suggesting you use to mount the oil filter kit.You access the area by removing front part of drivers side splash guard between front bumper and wheelwell, plenty of space, and it is a very short run to factory oil filter location, making oil line run a breeze.

For easy on going access to change the filter, I would use a hole saw and create a 4-6 inch hole on the part of the splash sheild facing the ground so you could just reach your hand up and change filter without removing anything or the need to lift the car.

Yeah... I really don't see that the active cooler location would be easier to acces than the stock location. Also, didn't he say he has an active Q, so presumably that cooler location would have a cooler and fan in there. The Q's engine bay is pretty tight. I understand the idea of moving it, but I really like the idea that I look upward from under the engine every 3 months or so to check for belt wear, leaks, etc. I just put the car on jack stands and rotate the tires every oil change at the same time. No risk of overtorqued lug nuts in my garage

Can you really get to the oil filter from below on an Active car?

Last time I tried (LONG ago) I couldn't get to it.

Last time I changed the oil, I went from above to loosen it, then dropped it down, through the fan, and grabbed it with another hand reaching sort of between the fan and the radiator.

I swore I'd never do it again last time!

Might be easier and safer to relocate the charcoal canister so you can get at the oil filter from the top.

. actually i now think i can locate the canister behind the airbox. just a little sheet metal work w/my friends nippers. the rubber flab is nothing more than a piece of inner tube. a starboard brkt. rite where the can. was. anyone done this as described. that std. filter location really pisses me off.
