My question is this, can I use a Purolator PL14610 filter which is a bit longer (1/2") than the PL14612 that is recommended by Purolator for the G37, the PL14610 is made for the 3 liter maxima, diameter is the same on both filters, I don't think it should make a difference.

Not sure....I know there are 2 sizes used for G35's a short and tall Nissan filter.I have always used OEM from my local Nissan dealer.

There are better alternatives than OEM filters from the dealer, I would not use anything but a high quality oil filter like Purolator for my car.

Yes you can use it...but SVT is correct about OEM filters. They are better than most aftermarket ones. (Fram is a good example of a crappy aftermarket filter)

Yes the Purolator Pure1, Mobil1 and K&N, and WIX are very good aftermarket filters. With them, as with many things, you get what you pay for.

Not necessarily...Oil filters are a tricky beast. If they filter too much, it can cause the bypass to kick in...then you get 0 filtering. There is a sweet spot...

The OEM filters are not cheap either. I used to get NAPA gold filters (WIX) but I may go back to OEM...

I have a friend that is a service manager at one of the local Nissan dealers. He said for me to use any brand oil I wanted, but to make sure I used an OEM oil filter. He has been turning wrenches a lot longer than me and in a garage as opposed to a driveway. So, I've stuck with his recommendation. Pretty sure he said it was due to the way the bypass worked.....

In my earlier days, I used to use nothing but WIX air filters and oil filters.Recently, I went to get an air filter at my Nissan dealer. The old parts manager sold them to me for $9 (retail $18). New parts manager wanted $17 I went to Napa & got their WIX filter for $4 and change with my company discount!!

I have been using good aftermarket filters for all the cars that I have owned, and have had no problems.

That's awesome! I was just trying to explain how Nissan had two different size filters for the same application - relating to your post.

Just added a little more information about the filters I use and why.If you are happy with the performance of your after market filters I'm happy for you!!
