oil filter for ex35

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

i recently changed my ex35 oil for the first time and noticed that the oil filter for ex35 is very tiny. I also have a 2000 nissan maxima and after some comparison, the filter for the maxima is longer than the ex35 with the same diameter and screw in thread. I am wondering if I can use oil filter of the maxima for the ex35?

If you match exactly the thread size, gasket size, relief valve setting, and with or without anti drain back valve (if you can get that date to begin with) it would probably work. But, if you have a problem you cant go back to the filter manufacture and complain that you just fried your engine using their filter, na?After 36 years in the engine business ( in R+D and test with engine manufactures) i am sure Nissan has provided all the filter required in the size constraint allowed that your engine will ever need if you follow the recomended drain intervals.I had an incident where a filter manufacture actually recomended a filter of theirs that did not have the proper relief valve pressure setting and with the higher engine oil flow of our engines oil pump it caused the filter to bypass continuously which of course meant the oil never passed through the filter media.

Stick with the factory filter during the warranty period and for the couple of bucks more you dont have to worry.

I agree....if you are in warranty stick with the OEM filter. They picked that filter for a reason and they've spent more money on R&D on the VQ35 then Fram or anyone else has.

I dont know if anyone of you know, but the OEM filter is made a little differently than the store brand. I would always use the OEM, so the warranty will not be voided.

After your break in period, you can use synthetic oil, but until then dont. Word to the wise.....
