well this weekend i changed my oil. it was hard! taking off the plastic cover on the bottom and actually draining/changing the oil was no problem. BUT, taking off and replacing the oil filter was a ******. all these wires and the manifold got in my way. and i have big hands so it was hard to manuever the old one out and the new one in. are there any easier ways?

ps (i took the filter out from the top, vs taking it out from the bottom)

I've read your post twice trying to find what you are asking or wondering about... :)

What you did is right, get one of those grip tool things that grips an oil filter, I used one on my 240 and it worked great. I can see what you're talking about with trying to get your hands down there, thats the easier part, its then moving your hands to fasten the filter...

get one of those filter tools, cheap and very easy to use, and makes the job easier on hard to erach filters :)

Taking it out from the top is definitely the easiest way. Manuevering (sp?) without spilling the oil inside the filter takes a bit of practice, but the hardest part for me is threading the new filter onto the shaft. Anybody else have problems with that?

Yup... every damn time I change my oil the filter doesn't like me. For some odd reason it never wants to thread right and I sit there for 10-15 minutes cussing... then finally it goes on. Weird huh?? I'm very glad I'm not the only one that has a hassle with that LOL.

Yeah get that clamp... it's much easier to take off the filter with it.

-funny, putting on the new filter is easy for me, but taking it off and not spilling oil is the hard part...

you want a b&^%h of a filter to take off, try working on a Tempo. it takes some 5 year old hands to get in there where the filter is lodged. I think ford designed it that way so that if it popped off, it would still be held in place by the radiator

I'm almost to getting ready for an oil change on my car soon. just a few hundred more miles to go

I noticed the filter change problems recently with my first oil change on a ca20e, dam oil spilt everywherer, next time ill wrap the whole dam thing in a large rag and remove as quickly as possible, also ill drain the car on a downhill slope so as to get more oil out of the filter before i change it.
