Ok so I was doing an oil change on my 1994 J30 and noticed that when you pull the filter oil just runs down the block and onto everything below. On the 300zx Z32, they have an oil filter bracket that sticks out farther and mounts the oil filter straight up and down. With this when an oil change is done, you wont be draining oil onto the block and create a mess.

I am currently still getting parts for this but looking at it in the FSM and talking to some Z friends at Z1 Motorsports, it seems that this will work.

I will update this with pics, parts and a How-To once I can get it done.

I may not change my oil until you report back on this. How's the project shaping up?

Thank you and Happy Holidays!

My friend is still trying to get the fitting that goes on the post where the oil filter screws onto. There is a fitting that has an o ring for the bracket to bolt up to. Once I get this I am close to do an oil and will test the bracket out at that point and get a good amount of pictures. Hopefully I will have something finalized within the next 2 weeks.

Here are the parts:

Gasket for the bracket and fitting that goes into the block

Im gonna probably just leave the oil pressure sensor in its stock location on the J. There is a port on the bracket where the 300zx oil pressure sensor is located stock. I will tell what to get for that also, i believe it is 1/8" NPT. Friend mentioned it would be a good spot to put an oil temp or pressure sensor for an external gauge.

Fantastic !!!I really would like a Oil temp and/or Analog pressure gauge. Is there room on the side of the engine for the bracket to mount ??

Ive been looking at the FSM for the 300zx and J30 and it looks like there should be. I will be under the car this weekend and be able to give a definite answer. The engine blocks are the same, Infiniti just decided to have their components set up a bit different from Nissan. If you think about it, the J30 filter sticks out much further than the bracket. and there is nothing below the filter so all should be good.

As long as the block has the four bolt holes like the bracket does we should be Golden !!!I'm sure it does.

I have a J30 and a Z32, and this is what I think from looking at each one:Nissan apparently elected to delete the bracket from the J30, since technically it is not needed. The Z32 however must have the bracket for the oil filter due to space limitations.

Well I have bad news, this wont work. The block has the bolt holes for the bracket, but it is not going to work since the steering rack is right below where the filter will go. From looking at the clearance it will be very hard to unscrew the filter fully.

I might take a closer look my next oil change if I can get it up on a lift. Tonight i just had it on jack stands so it wasn't easy to move around.

I will keep you guys posted in another 3k miles!

bummer.A relocation rig might be the only option if you dont have clearance.
