put a fancy cast alloy filler cap in wifes m37. Next day, engine fragged on interstate.

Full of fresh oil, coolant full, no overheating, no modifications

Is there any way that oil filler cap could have caused the engine faiure.???? (116000 on engine)

Not at all, unless it came apart and chunks wound up in the engine.

That's not a lot of miles for an engine failure. Timing chains don't usually fail that early - Would need more info to know what happened.

Is engine seized?

I changed mine to a fancy anodized one and ran it for thousands of miles - no problem. Unless there were bits falling off on the inside, I don't see how that could be the problem. Have you taken the cap off to inspect it?

I took the cap off, no signs of damage, been terrified to reinstall it on new (used) motor.
