oil fill light comes on in 5th gear

I just did an engine/trans/wiring harness/auto-manual swap in a 96 S14 with 95 parts and I just noticed the red oil fill light on the dash comes on in 5th gear. Is there a fluid level sensor in the trans? I have yet to check the fluid level. putting it in 5th is like pushing the button for the light to come on, clutch in or outthanks

something is wired wrong. so that means your oil pressure light is not truly monitering oil pressure. When you turn the key from off to on does the oil light come on?

I think it does, if I remember right. I'll double check that tommorrow though. It's strange. It only does it when the car is in 5th gear, clutch in or out, stopped or moving. I did have one or two connectors on the 95 harness that did not match up but they are nowhere near the engine or transmission. So you don't know of any sensors in the trans that measure fill level?

I hope you don't mind all of my questions, but honestly this is my first experience of any kind mechanically and it was a pretty big undertaking in my book, and honestly I'm doing it so that maybe I'll know something about all this. I appreciate your input it has helped greatly!

What I think is going on is you somehow have your fifth gear switch wired to your oil sender wire in the main harness somewhere. I cant really guess where though since you have done a transplant not of the same year. so you have 2 differnet cars frankinstiened together.
