Hey guys I bought my first rb25 not too long ago, and ive had some trouble here and there, but recently i ran into a stupid problem. The previous owner had the completely wrong oil filter on the car.

While slowly going over a speed bump I heard a clank.... then I noticed a wonderful oil squirting sound. The oil filter threads only reached the 1st thread of the outlet and the filter had popped off. (I was amazed it had stayed on for as long as it did) After spraying oil all over the brand new concrete parking lots of the local school, i scrambled for the turbo timer then parked (30 feet away from the oil spot that is.)

I cant seem to find basic information manuals on the rb25det in english,or with basic information. I know such things are posted in the"read before" sticky, but that thing is just a GIANT mess.

Information I am looking for on the rb25det (series 1 if that matters)

Oil filters (that i can purchase at autozone or type/ part number/ other nissan engine cross compatability)

recommended oil type (viscosity and such, not brand)

and is there any secret procedures to oil changes in rb25's? Like purging anti drainback, battery disconnect for electronic plumbing release. (used to akward procedures, thanks to my pair of m coupe's, and the electrical nightmare 2009 m5.)

All help is apreciated,TNX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe RBs use the same type of filter that are used for early SR20s. I would start by trying a filter referenced as a 91-93 B13 Sentra SE-R oil filter from the auto parts store. It should also be the same filter as a 90-96 300ZX VG30DE/TT.

yeah i think someone had mentioned the 300zx oil filter before, I had also heard on a sight that one of the ka's engines have a matching oil filter as well.

Then i read in the 300zx forum from one thread that says 300zx's dont have the same threads as ka's on oil filters. and Ka's fit rb25's

not to Count you out itzgenx cause i beleive your right from my patchy gathering of information. But can anyone confirm this? or should i just go pick up a buncha oil filters?

Also, amount of oil held by rb25 stock? assuming somewhere around 5 quarts

tnx guys

no the ka24 oil filter didnt work, but the 300zx filter worked fine. The ka filter (OEM) does not fit the rb25 for 91-94, and as someone said the 300zx TT 90-96 is the correct one!

Thanks fellas, very helpful.

Oh and Im in fairfax county, about 20 minutes from d/c, and 10 minutes from fairfax city. (Live in Vienna/Reston area)

KA oil filter didn't work?? I also use a KA oil filter on my RB25.

EDIT: Forgot to add I have a S2, but I didn't think that mattered.

ah well mines season 1, and i bought a ka filter for 90-93 ka version. and a 94. they where both nissan oem and they didnt fit. The curve inwards and down on the ka one's was too much, and it would barely thread on. (I suspect the one on there was for Ka too, cause it threaded the same way. But the lack of threads, and one little bump made the last one fall off. So I just used the one that worked perfect.

the 300zx TT 90-96 one. Was the exact same size as the oil filter outlet (diameter) and the seal lined up perfectly with the little metal brim. Not to mention, it threads alllll the way in!

Fram and Mobile 1 Ka filters might fit perfectly. But oem the inward slant is too heavy for s1 (if theres a difference), and does not properly secure the filter. (not to mention the gasket on ka filter doesnt even line up properly with the outside metal ring meant for gasket placement. {90-93 that is) The newer ka filter seemed like the threads where off and it only threaded in 3 rows before stopping every time.

But thanks, the problem is solved. =)

It seems the KA filters only fit the series 2 motors because he tried it on his series 1 and didn't thread on correctly or not enough threads.

90-96 z32tt filters seemed to work perfectly for him.

Yea I have always suggested the z32/sr20 filters due to nissan using pretty much the same filter for all performance engines of that era. The KA wasn't a worldwide market engine package, and it's filter looks rather bulky compared to most other nissan engines I see.

I guess I shouldn't have participated, my series one has a filter adapter for my oil cooler, probably why the KA works for me.

Sorry for the confusion
