Well, got the turbo on the car, runs great. Only problem is I get a small oil dribble from between the turbine housing and the CHRA. I did take them apart to re-clock the turbo to fit my car. Did I maybe not sandwich them together well enough? Or maybe should I have used some high temp sealant?

Thanks!

You shouldn't have an oil leak from reclocking. Unless, the end seal has failed or been broken.

do u have your valve cover vent hose plumbed back into the intake if so then you might be spitting oil and its collecting in the housing.

if not then you got bigger problems with the turbo.

Is the end seal created by the dome shaped cap on between the turbine wheel and the CHRA? That thing was loose when I clocked it.

No, it is the piston ring on the end. But usually it causes it to burn oil, not leak it, but weirder things have happened.

Yes, I know. It's very strange that it's not burning oil. I've checked the oil feed/drain over and over. I even moved the 1/16" restrictor from the block to the CHRA, to ensure no high volume/pressure oil is getting into the CHRA. I can't figure it out for the life of me.

I'm about to just bite the bullet and stop trusting people with used turbos. I'm beginning to think the only turbo to buy is a new one. Period.

Yeah, this is like, the second one this has happened with isn't it? You may just want to rebuild it so that you can take it apart to diagnose. You may be able to take it apart, witout changing everything and find your problem.

Kinda the second one...

First one (T3/T04E .50, .60a/r, .68a/r turbine) needed a TOTAL rebuild. Fins hit the compressor, etc. That one cost me a BTM and N2O 50 shot (dry).

This second one (T3/T04E .50, .70a/r (T04S housing), .63 turbine) was going to cost me $275. However, the guy is incredibly cool, local, and a friend of my stepson, so he let me try it out before I have to pay for it. He understands now that it needs a rebuild and I'll give it back to him this week. He never got to try it out since he purchased it used.

I think I don't want to chance $75.00 on this thing, only to find that I can't balance it (because I don't have a $10k balancing machine), can't press out/in the bearing races, and might need a new shaft because oil coking has cut the piston ring journal too small to seal.

I'd rather spend the $450 on the T04B V-trim brand new and be done with it all.

The bearings don't press in, they are held in with snap rings. You can pay 50 and get it balanced, but if you buy balanced wheels you don't have to balance it, it is just for better spool. But I have the V-trim, and that map looks nice. Altough, mine is a T3/T04b, since I made it hybrid.

Oh well, either way, doesn't matter now. Ordered a new T3/T04E .50trim, .60a/r, .63a/r turbine today. Should see it by Fri. or Sat. I'm tired of all the headaches of used turbos. People abuse the crap out of them, with little to no understanding of proper care and stuff.

I would like to see pics of the old T3/T04e parts. Especially the wheel and compressor. I may give a few bucks, depending on how bad they are.
