oil = disappearing

ok, heres my problem, my oil is disappearing.

valve cover has been checked, all gaskets are fine, and there is no visible leakage on the ground. also, there is oil all over the outside of the head, and on the underside of the distributer. the thing of it is, is that i dont know where to even start looking, and money is tight so i dont really want to take it to a mechanic, because any of them around here would charge me my soul just to look at it, much less fix the problem. anyway, anyone know where i should start, and what to look for? thanks for help!

sounds like a valve cover gasket to me if you have oil all over the outside of the head.
