well, i recently bought my 90 240 a couple months ago and i bought it with a newer engine replacement with 30-40k on it. after i put a thousand or so miles on it i switched over to mobil1 10w30 fully synthetic. its been about 3k miles and i heard the lifters ticking so i checked the oil and i was about a quart low. i dont smoke and the bottom of the car is spotless, should i be worried, or should i just add a quart every 3k? any help would be appreciated.thanksluigi

i have the same problem except i use mobil 0w-40 synthetic.Oil gets low for no reason. Plus I have found when the lifters start to tick, i add 1/4 quart of oil and it quiets them down to normal for a like a week.

MOBIL1 has a bit of history with ticking lifters.

try valvoline SynPower in 5w-40 (autozone) and your ticking lifetr may go away (its worked for others).

Also a 30 weight is a bit of a thin oil, add to that the slippery nature of syns and the fact that MOBIL 1 specs out the visosities of their 30weights at the bottom end of scale that they are still allowed to call 30 weight and you are asking for a leak.

Go to a thicker viscosity in another good oil, like ChevronSupreme SYnthetic 5w-40, Valvoline Durablend 10w-40, ValvolineSYnpower 5w-40, Kendall (yes Kendall) 5w-40 synthetic.
