Does anyone's oil dipstick level read high (like way over the H mark) even when you absolutely made sure you put in exactly 4 quarts of oil? I have checked mine several times now in the morning before I go to work and it still reads way above the H mark. Everything looks normal - the oil pan, the dipstick, etc. Should I drain some of the oil out?

Thanks in advance for any input.

run your car for a few seconds then read it again. when it sits over night the oil drains outa the head. thats why it says to check it with the motor warm so the oil can circulate first

Is the oil pan dented around the dipstick area? Is the ground level?

Any sign of water or fuel in the oil?

Thanks for the replies! I just bought the car about two weeks ago. To answer your questions:

No sign of water or fuel in the oilThe oil pan is not dented at all.Car is on a very level surface.Just looked at the dipstick again with the car sitting about an hour (is this too long?) after I drove it, it reads a little over H.

Also, I noticed that the car belches out blue smoke when accelerating from idle, like from a stop light. The smoke goes away though after I get to second gear (even when I do it quickly). Can too much oil cause this?

I have read the oil bottles like a hundred times now - 1 qt each, and I poured in four. I even asked the wife to confirm that I did have four bottles that said 1 qt each. I totally drained out the oil pan, even jacking up the driver's side just to get all of the oil out (I do this to all my cars when changing the oil.)

Any thoughts or theories?

did you pull the dipstick when the engine is running? You should turn it off when you check oil level. Otherwise the level will be higher.

the oil monster keeps adding oil to your motor.

your valve seals are bad if it smokes after idling ie car is sitting then you give it gas to drive off.

The engine was off and has been sitting for an hour. I did it again awhile ago, exactly 15 minutes after I got home. Yes, I used my phone alarm to time it, and it is still a little above the H mark. Dang that oil monster!!!

So the valve seals are bad ... I am now starting to realize that I should not have bought the car. Oh well, guess this is the time to learn how to work on an engine. Maybe I will start this weekend.

Thanks again to all.
