I was changing the oil in my newly acquired SR, and I was wondering how long everyone else's dipsticks are?? Dont laugh, my car has a greddy oil pan I know this much. I put in the 4.5 quarts. This is the spec correct?? I have searched and read where people used five or whatnot. I started the motor and let in run to fill the oil filter, etc. I let it cool down and noticed that I was very low on oil!! I added more and more and finally I am at the level on the dipstick that is required. There is 7 qts of oil in it and I am scared to death that this incorrect. I havent and will not drive the car till someone confirms the length of the stock SR dipstick. Does the greddy oil pan require a different dipstick. What else could I look for?? Input please, i miss my coupe. Thanks

i know that oil pan holds more oil cuz of the sides that come out. as for the dip stick, i think if it were needed it would come with the oil pan... research the greddy pan and see if it does or does not hold more oil.. sorry i couldn't help more

The sides of this pan are pretty gnarley, and I have no doubt that it hold much more oil but 7 qts. I researched the greddy site and they call for 4.5 quarts. It is supposed to hold 1000cc more oil, and mentions nothing of a different dipstick. I just really need some to take a sec and measure there dipstick for me. I will be eternally greatful. Thanks again for the help.

yep from the end of the plastic handle its 19 inches and its about 17 1/4 to the full line.

On my first fill up ever it took around 5 quarts to get it full but its been 4 quarts since that first fill up, I assume there is alot of oil trapped in various parts of the engine that doesnt come out under normal conditions but when it gets shipped on its side or whatever it probly all comes out.

I just measured my dipstick and it is only 18 inches from the bottom of the handle to the end!!! I bet that whoever did the swap used the wrong dipstick and ran it with way to much oil since the swap was done! GGGREAT can anyone else confirm the length of thier dipstick and where can I get one for an SR. Can I get one at the parts store do you think. Am I going to run into big problems because of the the previous owner running to much oil if this is the case. This is very concerning to me. I knew something was up. I did a compression test and it came back 155 155 145 150. Is this a good reading. Im no genius but running two quarts more than you should is a pretty bad sign and running 1 bar, Im surprised the head gasket isnt blown!! HELP

Thanks for getting back to me. From my research my compression numbers are perfect. SR's read anywhere from 130-160 depending on motor condition. I asssume being with 10 psi and 155 being the highest and 145 being the lowest, I think that I am fine in that regard. Just kind of need to know where to get an SR dipstick quick. Can any USDM car dipstick be used?? Just wondering if anyone has had to replace one without ordering one. Thanks again

I know I can find one, but I want one right now. I was trying to cross reference part number and specs ondifferent dipsticks to see if I could just go pick one up. If someone could get me the exact mesurements off of their dipstick, other than just the length maybe the mesurements of the low and high fill point indicators, I'm thinking I can just go get one that is the same size and marking it just so I can drive the beast. I fiend for this car like nothing I've ever owned (Several GSX's and many many bikes). I really think that this motor is strong considering it has probably been running under such high pressures. I wonder how the oil pump is?? The guy that had this car must have been a goober, lol. That sucks. The bright side is I only paid 1500 bucks for the whole car!! 90 coupe witha redtop, greddy oil pan, front mount, 3inch turbo back, greddy elbow, greddy downpipe, apexi filter, greddy bov, HKS actuator 1 bar, Nismo 555cc, SAFC, runs like a raped ape. Someone get back to me about the dipstick mesurements and I will figure something out until I can order one. If this sounds like a bad idea someone let me know. Thanks guys

Make sure your dipstick holder is down all the way into the block. With 5 quarts my oil level reads slightly over the full line with the Greddy Pan. Compression for the SR should be 155psi for a fresh build. Anywhere from 140-160psi is fine. HG wont blow from too much oil and it shouldnt blow from 1 Bar of boost. I used to run 20psi on the stock HG for a few years.

There are no US dipsticks that are the same as RWD SR.

And PLEASE - if you do not know a number don't just guess and post. The poster saying compression should be 225 and then later saying "Hope I helped" is very irresponsible.

If you don't know for sure don't post! Guessing is not a proper way to work on cars or to help anyone.

I do appreciate all who chimed in to help. I think that I will check to make sure that the oil tube is in the block all the way when I drain 2 qrts of oil out of it. Im going to check at auto zone for a dipstick that is the same length as the SR, and completely drain and refill with with 5 qrts and mark the dipstick and roll with it till mine gets here.

Just got a universal oil dipstick and was just double checking to make sure that if I cut this dipstick to 19 inches below the handle, and refill to 5 qrts that I will be OK until my SR dipstick gets here?? Thanks
