I have a front mount Perma Cool oil cooler, and am wondering if I need to have a oil thermostat as well? Winter temps are colder where I live now than they were in Cali, so I never thought about having one......but lately here average temps have been 20's-40's.

Yes, definitely. Hayden makes an adapter with a built in thermostat. I've got it and it's OK. If I do it again, I'll use an external adapter.

Hmmmm, I wonder if this is why my oil pressure gauge reads high at cruising speeds? It's been in the 30's-40's ever since I completed my swap, so I haven't driven it yet in warm weather with the new engine.Anyway, I'm thinking about this one, any opinions?.............. http://www.perma-cool.com/Catalog/Cat_page14.html

I think Im just going to run a petcock or switch inline. When its hot enough, or the cars being driven hard enough, Ill simply pop the hood and turn a lever.

I just warm my car up before I go anywhere. And if I have to hop in and just go, I keep revvs under 3500 until I am at NOT. Been working well for over a year now.

2 weeks ago, my entire town froze solid. Today, it was like 40. It does get pretty cold. Not Michigan cold, but chilly enough.

I was just giving you trouble man. I've got a thermostat on mine, but it gets into the single digits here at night pretty easily, and sometimes below zero.

It dosn't get that cold here. haha. I've seen some of those thermostatic oil cooler sandwiches fail a lot though with a fair amount of track use. I dunno though.

Yea, I got one, just because it was cheap and I wanted to see how it worked. It seems to work OK, but when I swap the motor into the new chassis, I think I'll get a regular external one.

Do you have any info or links on an external one?

Us southern boys should be fine without one. I have never seen any evidence of over cooling.

Yep, here's one from summit racing

That's the one I'm going to be running on my CA with my Setrab core. If you search oil thermostat on the online catalog you can find some more. Try searching jegs too. Good luck with it man.

those thermostats never stay fully shut and always allow some oil to the cooler, from everything I have been told and witnessed.

Yea but then you have to adjust the amount of oil to your cooler by hand, whereas with just a thermostatic valve it adjusts based on temperature. Those little valves might be kinda useful for a fuel cutoff though.

You posted a link to one earlier. When I say external, I mean opposed to one that has a thermostat built into the block adapter.
