Hey I posted earlier about how there was oil in my coolant, and now we've located the problemThere is something wrong with the oil cooler and thats where the oil is leaking into the coolantIf i were to buy a used one from a junkyard, what car would I be pulling it from?

thanks.

if you have opil in your coolant you have a blown head agasket.

and yes any junkyard oil cooler should work once you ge the correct fittings and filter adapter plate.

actually we replaced the head gasket and that didnt fix the problembut we have found out for sure that its the oil cooler, dont really know how to explain what we did, but it keeps the oil from entering the coolant

thanks for the info though!

you know the metal thing that the oil filter screws onto? well there are two parts to that, the top part is the oil cooler

Does the coolant come in through the block?

The cooler is fed from a take off from the block, you can see one of the rubber pipes if you look near the oil filter.

not likely, i highly doubt that little oil cooler thing made a drastic difference in the car's oil temperature. if youre worried, go get a junkyard oil cooler like ca19 said. you can also always buy a greddy oil cooler kit or something. i know my dad's 89 bmw 325i has a fairly large oil cooler in front of the radiator if you can find one of those. i know there are plenty more cars with them, just take a trip to a junkyard one afternoon and go hunt around for a while.

hmm...what i plan to do is probably run without an oil cooler thenso I'm gonna need an oil filter adapter that doesnt have the threads on the top for the oil cooler to screw down ondoes a ca18de pulsar even have an oil cooler? cuz if it doesnt, I'm guess that I can use the oil filter adapter thenhopeffully that will work

I never went back thru the threads on sxoc that address the oil cooler problem, but getting rid of that water/oil exchanger, may be a good idea for these old motors. I've read several cases of failures like this post. Should be able to get rid of the whole assembly and bolt on a simple sandwhich adapter at the oil filter. Then run lines to any ol cooler - starions and 1990 dsm 1st gen turbo have em that u should be able to grab cheap. Should not be expensive at all. ~$300 gerddy one is ridiculous.

maybe even cut apart the failed stock one and see if you can weld on some fittings to channel the oil externally to a front mounted cooler. Just a thought

put a fitting for an oil pressure gauge on while you're under there

well I'm kind of on a budget right now so I don't think I'll be dishing out money for an oil coolersince one member here says he doesnt even have one, and is still running alright, i figure i can do without one for nowif I cant get a hold of a oil filter adapter from a pulsar, can I just get an oil filter sandwich adapter and just run a high pressure hose from to recirculate the oil?hopefully somebody understands my question
