I was wondering if anyone had used one of the cheaper oil coolers. I don't have enough money for an HKS, GReddy or ARC. So I was looking at the B&M or one of the other less popular brands. Has anyone used one, and how do you like it?

Thanks,James

You get what you pay for when it comes to car parts, especially items such as oil coolers.

Gotta think, this thing fails and your engine goes with it :p

What are you going to use it for? Are you running an application where you really need an after market oil cooler?

I think Every car should have an oil cooler.

Theres absolutely no reason NOT to have one. And alot of other enthusiasts would agree ^.^

You should get an oil pressure gauge if you havent already. I also think every car should have an oil pressure gauge as well ^.^

If your trying to save some cash, id go with a DIY oil cooler. Basically, all you need to do is get an oil sandwich plate, and an oil relocation kit. You can get this stuff on ebay at the right price. I got a sweet CNC oil cooler sandwich plate from ebay, if you want the name of who i got it from PM me and ill let you know.

Run your lines from the sandwich plate that fits between your oil filter and your block to the relocation oil filter. You can mount the relocation plate wherever, but it might help to have it where its got a good source of air. Then get a huge oil filter, like one for a big block Chevy and that acts as your oil cooler. You can even get fancy and get these magnet things that stick to the side of the oil filter that have aluminum fins on them for additional cooling.

Also, an oil cooler, no mater what brand you get isnt going to just fall apart. There is almost no freaken way that one will burst. You can spend all the money in the world on an oil cooler, but its always going to be the lines that go bad on you. The weakest link in your oiling system with an oil cooler would be the lines, so dont cheap out on the lines.

I'm getting into drifting, and will be running the car harder than normal. I already have the bigger GReddy oil pan w/ the baffles. I already have an oil pressure gauge. Thanks, I'll look into the ebay way.

Dont skimp on the lines like everyone says, also get a thermostat so when you run the car in the winter it won't suck in cold oil from the cooler until everything has properly warmed up. As for cheap good cooler cores, if you have a volvo junkyard or pull-a-part near you, look for older turbo volvo's that have oil coolers. I picked up a decent core for $15. I believe volvo uses setrab cores.

IMO, Setrab is the best and is what Ill be using on our project car.

There is also a less expensive company that makes oil coolers called "Long". Their stuff is quality at a lesser price.
