Where can I find one I'm going to be putting in an oil cooler, I found an eight row cooler out of a newer ford van at the junkyard. So I just need to know where to find one and such thanks!

Yeah I can get them at my work for cheap (B&M) but all it says is fits most imports, so I didn't know if it would?

As long as it is 3/4-16 thread pitch it should work perfectly. Look for one with a built in thermostat.

What it be a huge deal if I didn't have a thermostat in it?

I've always heard there should be a t-stat.....but I've been using an oil cooler without an t-stat for 2+ years. I plan to get one, just haven't done so yet. I think there are a few others here don't use them as well

the t-stat only allows the oil to be cooled once it has reached a certain temperature (185*/195* IIRC) so it doesnt get overcooled, helps with warm ups, etc..

questionwhen changing the oil DO u have to take off one of the lines in order to empty the oil cooler?

also when the t-stat opens, if there is air in the cooler wont that momentarily starve ur engine? or atleast drop the pressure?

I can see a sandwich plate being an issue with the orientation of the inlet/outlet. Its going to point wherever it wants to when its tightened, and this could create routing issues.

bump

Im after one of these but because of what I've mentioned above, I am unsure if I should go with a sandwich plate, or a filter relocation kit.

I've got a Perma Cool sandwich plate that I don't use, if you want it. It's almost brand new.....I only used it for one oil change, so it's only got like 2500-3000 miles on it. I bought a oil filter relocation kit so I could use one of the BIG 1 qt. filters.....otherwise I would still be using the sanwich plate. I have straight fittings for it, and 90 degree fittings.Let me know if interested, and I'll post up some pics of it

What was the question...the orientation of the inlet/ outlet?

I too would be curious about pressure drops with a T-stat unit. I know with the trans cooler we installed on the Sprint, we had to add extra fluid to prevent pressure loss....(as the pressure releases into the empty space).

then again we did it inline and didnt have to add a plate.

yea, because they are threaded on and the inlet/outlet would basically end up wherever it wanted to be.

I'll show in my pics....but the part of the sandwich plate that has the in and out nipples on it swivels independently from the shaft that screw onto the block....so you can rotate it 360 degrees to where ever you want. I don't know if all sandwich plates are 2 pieces....but the one I have (Perma Cool) is.....

I just pulled out my old ca18et block out of storage to take pics with the spin-on sandwich plate on it. The block is physically identical to the ca18det block.......externally.

here is the back of the adaptor, with the o-ring, which is what sits against the block.

And the front of it, where the filter screws onto.....also in the pic is the screw on center section that holds the sandwich plate to the block, which allows you to swivel the unit 360 degrees. Also the little adaptor to match the thread on the block.

3/8 npt. The sandwich plate came with just the straight 3/8 npt barb fittings. I bought the 90 degree fittings and used the barb'd fittings with the 90's so it would bring the hoses out from the engine, and make the hose routing easier
