Thank you for joining to set me straight. Honestly I think that is the first time I have gotten called out in such a manner. I agree since Caddy started with their Euro style designing (early cts) their quality. I am talking about the Northstar (forgive my lack of knowledge on the production run) from the previous line. The VK45 in the M is a fairly old drivetrain and has not been significantly updated since the removal of EGR valves.

The VK50 resolves the issues of its predecessor.

I really should have been more specific and I did indeed make a judgemental statement about something I know very little about. Although of the ones I have driven and serviced are not to my personal liking. I however am not shy about my bias.

I would still like to drive a cts-v but I have had a chance to drive an xlr-v (trade in on a used M6) and although it looks flashy I would take a Vette over it, the gauges are pretty interesting though. It feels numb. I just do not prefer the American luxury brands interior styling, and their retained value.

The do make a powerful V8 though that is one thing they do have going for them. I think the CTS is a little too small for the same reasons as the IS.

Just put it this way the CTS V interior is just lame. I past on one for the M. Now the new series coming out is speechless. I will get one of those one day. Close to 600 ponies stock. OUCH!!

That's a VH....It's not even the same thing in this case. The VH was an amazing engine but not efficient enough to meet the needs of modern cars.
Actually it more than is. Just a more expensive design (closed deck like the Porsche V8) to produce than the VK.

Nothstar V8 (especially) had plenty of oil consumption problems.

Got back from vacation and started up the M and got lots of smoke and knocking. Called the dealer and they recommended a tow, they agreed on the one quart in less than 2000mi, they topped off the oil, now I have to drive it 1500 more miles then a recheck, then 1500 more mi for another recheck, that puts my oil change interval at 5000miles. Any modern day cars should go 5000 mi between oil changes with little or no burn. I also took a video to give to the dealer, thanks New2import that is a great way to document. I will try to add a link for you. Thanks.

It's been over a week and a half since I finished the consumption test. The service advisor told me he will call if they are gonna order any parts. How long does it take them to confirm if you need a new engine?

You shouldve known that day if the oil was below the test. They looked at how much oil was lost and call that day to get confirmation on a new engine. They also let it sit to take pic of the blue smoke start up. Once they sent all that info they removed intake and valve covers to take pics to make sure service wasnt neglected. You need to get some info on what they are doing.

This oil comsumption needs to be addressed by Nissan/Infiniti. Have any of your cars stopped consumming oil or does it just get worse? My car runs so good but I cannot accept one quart of oil every 1000-1500miles. What sort of damage is this doing to the exhaust system and sensors? We do not have a Smog check in Florida anymore, are your cars passing the test in the other states? My car smokes everytime I start it, then it settles down and runs great.

Lot's depends on proving [written 3rd party records] that you maintained correct oil level between 180 day change intervals.Obviously those that followed 90 day and 3750 miles recommendation are in a better position to prove non abuse.
