I have a 2003 G35 coupe/ 6 speed. It has been burning about a quart of oil every 1500 miles. The dealer has confirmed it with an oil consumption test. They are talking to corporate to decide what to do. I am not happy about the possibility of them taking my engine apart piecemeal to figure out the problem. Any suggestions or anyone else with such a problem?

Most US companies define normal as less than 1 quart per 1,000 miles or every 30 days. 1 quart compared to 80 gallons of gasoline is 1/320= 3/10th of a percent oil combustion......shouldn't affect the cats or O2 sensors.

Aren't you glad you purchased a Japanese product with higher standards. At least they are not blowing you off , yet. You might get a new engine if it gets worse............

How many miles on engine/car? Were you a bad boy in doing the break in proceedure? Make sure you stop by dealers every 1500 miles for a documented top off......build that computer case file!

They've sold about 300,000 of these engines world wide so some have to have problems.

Thanks for the info.

I currently have less than 10,000 miles on the car. During the break-in period, I was pretty careful with following the guidelines.

What do you think is the most common cause? Rings? Valves? A crack somewhere? I also do not have much confidence in a dealership having the experience/know-how to rebuild/replace an engine if it comes to that. What do you think?

I think I'd try to get them to trade cars with that low of a mileage. If not a full engine swap should be in order - I wouldn't let them take it apart if possible. If there's another dealer that you'd trust more, I'd make the trip to have the work done. The warranty should be good at any dealership.

As far as a cause, my guess would be rings not seating properly. I've heard of a few 2002+ Q45s with consmption issues that were blamed on that.
