oil consumption

hey, I rebuilt my engine about 4k miles ago and it has been burning a little bit of oil. from what I have gathered it burns about a 1/2 qt per 1k miles, I know it is normal for a newly rebuilt engine to burn some oil but is it normal for it to do it after 4k miles? that doesnt sound right. I rebuilt every thing I had the head rebuilt new valve seals,guides,exhaust valves and valve regrind. I also had the cylinders honed and new pistons and rings. so I have no idea what could cause the oil burning. I get a little poof of blue smoke when taking off from a stop, and a little bit some times on start up. I have 180psi on all 4 cylinders. do you guys think this is normal? how much oil does you cars burn and if you have rebuilt a ka how much oil did it burn and for how long? thanks

I see that no one has replied, but i also rebuilt my kA. Replaced everything you did rings, pistons, etc. And it doesn't seem normal for ur Ka to be consuming that much oil. When my engine hit 1k miles it had consumed about 1 quart. The more miles i got on it, the less oil it comsumed. I have about 25k on my motor now and i hardly consumes any oil. If you installed the wrong size rings, that could be the problem. Cuz if they are the wrong size, ur ring gap is wrong and that would cause ur abnormal oil consumption. Also when you installed ur rings, did set one ring gap at 12 o clock postion, another one at 3, and another one at 6 or 9, cuz that could be another problem. Also how many miles do you get on ur oil before it is black, cuz if you dont get too many, that is caused by excessive blow by which is caused bad rings or ur case incorrect ring size or rings not installed properly.
