I have a 2002 V6 Nissan Xterra SE with 129,000 miles. I bought it at the 100,000 mile mark. I started useing a full synthetic oil. Right now it has mobile 1 10w 30 and am now at the 6,000 mile mark. Am I able to switch to a synthetic blend for now due to tightness of money or should I stay full. If I'm staying should I switch to a k&n oil filter or is what the service station provides ok? Also should I stay at 10w 30 or go with 5w 30? I hear Xterra run smoother on certain types of oil and filters. I want was is best for the long run obviously. Thanks for anyones help.

factory uses 5w30 for most climates..if you have moved to a synthetic oil then it would be in your best interest to stay there..a synthtic blend perhaps could be used but if it were mine i would stick with the synthetics.

one more thing...if you havent yet done the timing belt then you are on borrowed time...they should be done by no later than 105k...just some food for thought

Since you live in TX, you'd be fine running 10W30. The first number is the viscocity rating when cold. Since it doesn't get terribly cold in the southern climates, the 10w is fine. I've run that in mine since new.

As for filters, K&Ns are good, but they're also expensive. You'll do just as well using the OEM filters from the dealership. They have the anti drainback feature built in and work fine for your truck.
