Oil Changes

How many miles has everyone gone over when the car is due for a oil change? I normally, changed my oil before it reaches the 3,000 mile mark. But due to payday being like on a saturday have to wait a lil bit longer to take it in. Currently close to 13,400 miles, mine was due at 13,337 miles.

Also is it normal for the service light to come on before the mileage due for an oil change?? My service light came on and went off about 2 days later and thats without doing anything to the gas cap.

I believe Nissan specifies the oil to be changed at 3700 miles, so you're in the clear. The service light is an issue, but if the code cleared itself, i'd wait until it comes on again, or have the dealer scan the computer for stored codes... i dunno

My dealer usually changes it at 4750... something like that (the guy gave me the number, but I'm dyslexic with numbers)... It also depends on the type of miles you're putting on it and how hot the car runs for how long...

When I drove to Seattle, the service guy changed my oil before I left and told me I had nothing to worry about till I got back because highway miles for long stretches were the best miles because it keeps the oil the cleanest (burns off impurities that contaminate it). I think the recommended changing schedule is between 3500 and 7000 or something silly like that.

To each their own. I'm just going to listen to my service guy. eh, why not. But any interval is going to be approximate and probably have a safety built in... unless you know you're putting your baby through hell you shouldn't have to worry about going a couple hundred miles over your normal interval. Especially not if it's mostly highway in intervals longer than an hour.

I put mine through hell... so I change it every 2500.

i get mine changed @ 3500 miles & that way it makes it easy to keep up w/tire rotation every 7000 miles
