Greetings Everyone!

Im sure this topic has been gone over and over! I am rather anal when it comes to oil levels.. and changes! I have had 2 oil changes so far, mileage is 3180. I always felt better during the 1st few thousand miles to have it changed a couple times, then go to routine of 3,000 miles.

I know.. prob a waste of time and money.. but I feel better! The manual says 4 1/8 quarts with filter change. Heres where I get real anal ( duh me! ). I use my own oil, and have the dealer change it. I give them 4 quarts, ( Im partial to Castrol 5w 30 Dino oil). Is that 1/8 quart a deal? Yes.. I read the dipstick ( Hate the style of dipstick ) you know, the holes, difficult to read after a fresh change. Any opinions? JUST CALL ME ANAL.. LoL... Bob

Dont you hate it when manufacturers go to 4 1/8 instead of just plain 4 or 4.5 or 5 exactly. IMHO the 1/8 should be in there, if only for the following should for any unforesseen reason your level drop quickly that 1/8 could possibly make an important difference. As cars wear in, get older they all eventually use some oil which is a good thing, most of us have owned cars that required 1/2 a quart or more to be added every so often so I doubt that this damages engines to any major extent. But I am sure it is always better to have the correct amount or level in the engine as this is what the manufacture recommends.

Actually 4 1/8 quarts = 4 liters which is the measure 95 % of the planet is using, so if the USA were to go metric like the rest of the world you would be putting in exactly 4 liters , no 7/8 of a quart left over to deal with after.

how do you measure an eighth?! Do they have markings on the side of the quart for eighths? or do you have to just eye it?

i guarantee you go to most dealerships or independent shops and they'll just throw a little extra in, if at all...

Interesting article on the history of measurements is the U. S. is provided by the University of North Carolina here:

I wish we had converted totally to metric a long time ago. I was already used to using metric when I competed in track and field back in the mid-70s.

I must admit, however, that I really prefer the Fahrenheit system for the weather.

I hate leaving that little bit of unused oil in the bottle, because I forget and that oil just is part of my bottle collection.
