finally got the oil changed in my car. lord knows when the last time it was changed. 148,338 miles. when me and my dad went to pick it up, my dad was like, "so what, did 2 quarts come out and 5 go in?" just jokin' around, and the guy was like, "actually, it was more like 2 and a half came out, and 4 and 3/4 went in". I laughed. and my ticking noise is gone. so it doesn't sound like a diesel anymore. I'm happy. now for some new wheels... and a lsd... and a transmission... ergh, never enough money.

4 3/4? You might want to let a quart out of there. If you have too much oil you can blow some gaskets, like oil pan.

You didn't change the oil yourself?

I woulda done it myself if I had a place to put all the old oil.

4 3/4 quarts... maybe it was 4 1/4... who knows...

yes, it was making a nice loud ticking noise, and I drove it. of course, I also shifted at 3k for fear of somethign exploding.

yay! better start thinking about an engine swap soon!

my lil brother had that engine mod (he 4got to add 4/5 qts during an oil change-only added 2) on his POS dodge shadow... now it sits in the driveway as a parts car for anyone.

RIP 89 dodge shadow, u lemon from the mopar dealer.

Maybe nissan engines are more forgiving... X my fingers for u.

dude, just wait till midnight and leave it next to a dumpster at macdonalds or something. or better yet behind a jiffy lube cuz if they find it they'll have to dispose of it properly.

BTW; the owners manual says to add like only 3 3/4 (1/4?) oil for an oil/filter change. I'd take a look at your dipstick to make sure he didn't put too much oil in there.

actually, if you wanna be totaly legit, I understand most service stations will take your used oil for a tiny charge, or no charge at all. my brother works at a dealership so I just give it to him and he dumps it in with the rest of thier used oil.

I drop all mine off at discount auto... They take it for free. I have to take a 5 gal zepherhills bottle full of oil up to them soon actually :)

I always add 3.5 - 3.75 qts, depending on if the car has sat or if im in a rush. Ive never had to use more or less.

Just take the oil to an auto parts store.... Advanced Auto takes it for free. It's conveinent. 'Bout to do an oil change? No problem, just take the old oil down to Advanced, dump it, and pick up the fresh quarts while you're at it.

Exactly. Be friendly to the environment;). And don't inadvertently leave the bottle full of used oil underneath your car and try to move your car...those were rough times.
